A Cove dishwasher repair costs what warranty status, the failed part and the labor to reach it add up to. Here is how each one moves the bill in Tempe.
A Cove dishwasher repair costs whatever three things add up to: whether the machine is still inside one of Cove’s warranty windows, which part has actually failed, and how much labor it takes to reach that part in a panel-ready unit set into custom cabinetry. A defect in the first two years after installation is covered for both parts and labor, so the owner’s share is small. Past that point the bill follows the part, and in Tempe the hard tap water that runs through every kitchen on this side of the Valley is often what wore that part out.
Start with the warranty clock
Cove’s current residential warranty works in layers, and knowing which layer you are in is the single biggest factor in what you pay. During the opening two years after the machine is first installed, coverage is complete: a defect in materials or workmanship gets fixed with both the part and the technician’s time paid for, provided the dishwasher has only seen ordinary household use.
From year three through year five a narrower limited warranty applies. It still pays for four specific parts, the electronic control board, the diverter valve, the pump and the racks, but you cover the labor and other costs. The stainless steel tub and door liner go further, with a limited lifetime parts warranty. Cosmetic flaws on the stainless doors, panels, handles, frames and interior surfaces are the short one: only 60 days of parts and labor coverage.
If you own an older DW2450 or DW2450WS, dig out the paperwork that came with it. The earlier use and care guide printed a full five-year parts and labor warranty from installation along with the lifetime cover on the tub and door liner, so an older machine may carry different terms from the current line.
Read the rating plate before you call
Open the door and look at the left side wall of the tub. The rating plate there lists the model and serial number, and both are needed for any service visit. Cove’s current range is four 24-inch panel-ready machines: the DW2451, the DW2451WS with a built-in water softener, and the DW2451/ADA and DW2451WS/ADA at ADA height. Knowing which one you have, plus the install date from your invoice, lets the technician bring the right part the first time instead of ordering after the visit, and fewer trips means a smaller bill.
Which repairs cost more, and why
Not every fault is equal. The parts on Cove’s five-year list are the expensive ones for a reason: the control board runs every cycle, the pump moves all the wash water, and the diverter valve steers it between the spray arms. A failure in any of these is a real part plus real labor once the full warranty has lapsed.
Labor itself depends on access. Because a Cove sits flush behind a cabinet panel, any job that means sliding the dishwasher out of its opening, such as reaching the supply or drain connections behind it, takes more care than work done from inside the open door. The custom panel has to be protected, and the unit has to be leveled and re-secured when it goes back in.
Installation details matter too. Cove calls for a hot water supply with an accessible shut-off valve, 5’ (1.5 m) braided tubing with a 3/8” female compression fitting, water pressure between 30-140 psi and supply water no hotter than 140°F (60°C). A dishwasher installed outside those limits can throw faults that look like broken parts but are really plumbing.
Messages you can often clear yourself
Several Cove messages point to something you can check for free before booking anyone.
- Error 800115 is a drain fault. Make sure the drain line and air gap are clear, the knockout plug was removed from the disposal inlet, the hose is not kinked or routed more than 4’ (1.2 m) above the dishwasher floor, and the filter is clean. Our page on dishwasher drainage problems goes further.
- Error 56 01 87, also shown as 560187, means no water arrived in the first three minutes of a cycle. Confirm the supply valve is open, switch the dishwasher’s breaker off for 30 seconds, then try again.
- Error 980199 means power dropped mid-cycle, which a summer storm flickering the lights can easily cause. Top up the detergent if needed, press Cancel and restart. If it keeps coming back, that is a service call.
- A display that reads Locked is the child lock, not a fault. Touch and hold Heavy for about 10 seconds to release it; it stays set even through a power outage.
Hard water is the slow cost in Tempe
Valley water carries a heavy mineral load, and scale building on the pump and inside the tub shortens the life of exactly the parts that are costly to replace. Cove’s own guidance helps here. Dose liquid, gel or powder detergent to your water: a third of the cup for 0-3 gpg, two thirds for 4-8 gpg and a full cup at 9+ gpg. Cove rates powder as giving the best results and warns that all-in-one pods can overdose the Light, Quick and China/Crystal cycles.
When the screen shows Descale Unit. Check manual., empty the racks, put a dishwasher cleaner or 3 tbsp (44 ml) of citric acid in the detergent dispenser and run Soak & Scrub. On softener models, keep the salt topped up whenever Add salt appears. Our dishwasher maintenance guide covers the rest of the routine.
